Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has successfully secured a crucial permit to introduce its “flying car,” Aeroht X2, in China.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China’s “special flight permission” will allow Xpeng’s Electric Vehicle Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) vehicle to conduct a manned flight.
X2, which AeroHT refers to as a “flying automobile,” is a two-seat, carbon-fibre quadcopter without wheels. However, concept images posted on the company’s website suggest that the next-generation aircraft will resemble a sedan with wings.
According to its product literature, X2 is designed for future low-altitude city flights and is ideal for short trips within the city, such as for tourist or medical transportation. You can operate X2 manually or set it to autonomous mode, which automatically manages takeoff, flight, and landing. Since its initial flight in June 2021, the model has completed over 3,000 tests in the air.
