The US Midterms Election 2022 started on November 8, 2022 (Election Day). During this midterm election year, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, and 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate will get their representative.
As US Midterms Election 2022 is ongoing, let’s take a look at what exactly are the midterm elections.
What is Midterms Election?
America’s legislative process is basically composed of two houses one is the House of Representatives and the other is the Senate. Now the House of Representatives has a congressman and congresswomen who are chosen for two-year terms whereas the Senate has senators having six-year terms. Hence election comes every two years for the whole House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate as the seats are coming up for election. This is what we call Midterms Election.
Why Midterms Election 2022 is Important?
Senate and House seats will be up for grabs in the 2022 midterm elections. A number of governorships are also on the ballot. There is an increasing influence of governors on the national policy which makes gubernatorial races critical even beyond state borders.
Major issues in this election 2022
- Inflation: The cost of living is at an all-time high. There is an exponential increase in consumer prices, gas prices, and interest rates, which Republicans blamed on President Biden’s and Democratic policies.
- War: The inflation rate is increasing almost in every part of our world as there is a war raging in Ukraine and Russia’s engaged in that war and these are key suppliers of food and energy in the world. Republican Party’s perceived support for Russia, will be in favour of Biden.
- Crime and Immigration: Republicans are saying that crime is rising, in fact, genuine crime is rising and Donald Trump has been holding rallies focusing particularly on Crimes by immigrants so that is another issue that’s going to matter to people.
- Abortions: This could be in favour of Democrats as the decision that was overturned by the Supreme Court in June and that is the right to abortion as a constitutional right while the Democrats are faithfully in favour of women having a decision or right over their body. This is a key issue for young voters, Women Voters and Democrats are hoping that this issue could help them swing the votes to their side.
They are other issues too like Student loan forgiveness.
These are the issues, but will people remember these issues when they go into the polling booths to vote?

President Joe Biden‘s ratings briefly increased after several legislative victories in August and September 2022. But his popularity is on the decline and keeps decreasing till the end of October, in fact, it’s under 50.

If the Republicans get control of the House of Representatives how does it impact the government or the lawmaking well it does it clearly does. In case Democrats try and stall any of the agendas of President Biden, it’s going to be highly problematic for Biden.
All the ex-presidents have also been actively encouraging young voters especially to come out and vote.
